Aries :
There are two main primary species of persimmon cultivated worldwide, along with hundreds of distinct varieties divided by taste profile: 1. Asian Persimmon (Diospyros kaki): Native to East Asia. Includes Fuyu (non-astringent, squat, firm like an apple) and Hachiya (astringent, acorn-shaped, must be squishy soft to eat). 2. American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana): Native to North America. Yes, the American Persimmon is native to Kentucky. It grows wild across the state, producing smaller, highly fragrant, plum-sized fruit with a rich, caramel-honey taste once fully soft-ripe after autumn frosts. Instagram Caption Draft. Did you know? 🍂 Persimmons come in two main primary species: the popular Asian varieties you see in stores (like crunchy Fuyu or sweet Hachiya) and our native American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana)! 🧡 Yes, Kentucky actually has its very own wild persimmon! Smaller than the store-bought ones, these native gems ripen in late fall, turning into a rich, sweet, caramel-like treat once soft.
