In 1988, several people died after a mother bought her 6-year-old son a doll. The boy repeatedly told adults the doll was responsible. Nobody believed him… until his mother discovered the doll had been moving and speaking without batteries.

I don't know if it's the worst but recently in nepal a glacier cracked open and released basically a tsunami worth of water onto the city and theres video footage of it. One second everyone's fine, the next they hear/see something and run, then their gone, instantly, the building and cars destroyed

There are so many, it’s genuinely hard to pick a disaster to use here. But I don’t think the 1921 Tulsa Massacre gets enough coverage for its impact on the nation for generations.

the japan free drink thing. so basically, somewhere around the 80s, a vending machine drink was doing buy one get one free, so people could get two instead of one. people commonly saw an extra drink on top of the vending machine because people only wanted one, so people took the free one on top of the vending machine. the drinks were actually poisoned, and they never found who poisoned it today.

The Irish Potato famine. I swear nobody ever talks about this but in the mid 1800’s British forces had control over Ireland, their farmers were forced to produce crops to export for little to nothing. Potatoes were easy and fast to grow so over a quarter of the Irish population relied on it as their own food. A blight (basically a mold that happens before a crop is harvested) was so rapid because all the potatoes they were forced to grow were genetically exactly the same. Over a million people died of starvation or sickness. Two million fled the country, mostly to America. Ireland lost 25% of its population in the span of 7 years.

9/11 there was this guy who always had a red bandanna and took it with him everywhere and he was a firefighter at 16 and then he was a business man then he wanted to be a firefighter again and when the the first building collapsed he was in it but he survived and he saw the people on the floor and said “anyone who can stand up do it and if you’re alive say so” and everyone on that floor did and he said “the ones that can stand up come with me, i found the stairs” and i forgot to mention they were afraid to move because they thought it would collapse but they did it anyway and he got them down to the firefighters but he didn’t stay he went back up 17 flights of stairs and helped the ones that needed help to walk and got some of them down big went back up to get more but then the building collapsed and he died and this one woman who survived told the parents about the guy that saved her and described him to his parents and they said “that was our baby” and it was the saddest day for everyone but especially people who lost loved ones.

The Oklahoma City bombing. So I was pretty little and I had been sick that morning my aunt Betty and uncle Rick were supposed to be in the murrah building. But they stopped to call us here in NM wondering how I was. That phone call saved their lives. They always say “youngin you being sick saved us” I will forever carry that in my heart 💜

Ebenezer McBurney Byers was a wealthy salesman and sportsman. In 1927, he hurt his arm in an accident so his physiotherapist suggested drinking a pain-killing medicine called "Radithor". It was made by dissolving Radium in water (Radium is extremely radioactive but back then, no one knew it's deadly). Until 1930, Eben kept drinking Radithor in huge masses (up to 1400 bottles), which made his lower jaw start to rot and fall off. He also suffered brain damage. In 1932, he died because of radium poisoning. To shield the world from his highly radioactive body, they even buried him inside a coffin made of lead.
