I’m an engineer for a fabrication company. One of the many things we make are upper cylinder mounts for Mac Trailer. They have all of their dump truck and dump trailer upper cylinder mounts made out of 3/8” steel for the body of the mount, and what the actual cylinder mounts to is 1”. Imagine an old style wooden basket that has a bottom, sides, and end caps, and then 2, 1” mounts in the middle. Flip it upside down and put that at the top of your bed. Then cover that with the actual aluminum or steel structure of the bed. That’s how they mount their cylinders. I know I’m an engineer and I’m not the best with explaining things, so if you want, reach out to me and I can make you some drawings and share them with you. We make thousands of these for Mac Trailer each year

Have a certified aluminum welder cut the whole dog house out and make you a new one with a 1/2” steel cap extending down the sides. That aluminum is fatigued like crazy and it will never hold.

My personal experience with aluminum dump beds is to scrap them and put a steel one on. Once aluminum is old and dirty you will never get a clean weld and steel plating is just a bandaid.

You ether cut out whole dog box and switch to steel or sell off bed for a 2k and find a decent used steel bed but ether way you’ll be almost 3-5k fixing it

I work on offshore vessels. I would change the design. You could cap it like you want, but i wouldn't put the pin back just on the eye on top. I would make 2 extra holes on both sides of the pin so the pin has 3 pressure points instead of 1 on the top. Over drill these side holes with 20mm and put a steel bush with a 10mm thinkness in the side holes. Finish the project with a longer pin and lock in place.
