@deeploneliness_: It’s wild how quickly a person can become part of the architecture of your life. A year ago, you could’ve walked past each other somewhere and neither of you would’ve thought twice. You didn’t know their voice, their stories, their habits, what makes them laugh, what they order at restaurants, what they’re like when they’re stressed, or the random little phrases they say so often that you eventually start saying them too. They were just another person somewhere in the world living an entire life that had absolutely nothing to do with yours. And then somehow your paths crossed. Now they’re one of the first people you want to tell when something happens. Their name is scattered throughout your camera roll and your messages. They’ve been added into plans you haven’t even made yet. You see something funny and immediately think of them. You hear a song and associate it with a memory involving them. Places that used to mean nothing now remind you of conversations you had there together. 😭 And I think that’s one of the strangest things about relationships: there usually isn’t one obvious moment where a stranger officially becomes your person. It happens gradually through hundreds of tiny interactions. One conversation becomes another. One hangout becomes a routine. You start learning each other’s lives, meeting each other’s people, developing inside jokes, showing up during difficult moments, and suddenly this person who once occupied absolutely zero space in your world is woven into your everyday existence. Of course, “I couldn’t imagine my life without you” doesn’t have to mean you literally couldn’t survive without somebody. Healthy love still leaves room for two complete people with their own identities and lives. It’s more like looking at the version of your life before them and realizing how strange it feels now. They weren’t missing back then because you didn’t know there was a space for them yet. Now you do. And that’s what makes meeting people so fascinating. Somewhere right now there could be somebody you’ve never spoken to who will eventually become incredibly important to you. Your future best friend, partner, collaborator, or someone who changes the direction of your life might currently be a complete stranger. Sometimes an entire chapter of your life begins with nothing more dramatic than meeting somebody you had no idea you were going to love.
