If you actually care about the hardware instead of the logo Xiaomi 14 ultra is way better.
The main camera on the 14 Ultra uses a full 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor. The iPhone 18 Pro is stuck with something in the 1/1.28-inch range. That difference alone is massive. Bigger sensor means more light, better dynamic range, cleaner high ISO, and actual optical depth of field that changes when you stop the aperture down. On the smaller iPhone sensor the difference between f/1.48 and f/4 is real but pretty weak because physics doesn’t care about marketing.
Xiaomi’s aperture goes from f/1.63 to f/4.0 and it’s stepless. In Pro mode you can adjust it in tiny 0.01-stop increments with a proper motor. In normal mode you still get the useful steps. Apple only gives you four fixed positions: 1.48, 1.8, 2.8 and 4.0. No continuous control. They both use six blades, but one is continuous on a huge sensor and the other is stepped on a small one.
That means on the Xiaomi you can actually use the aperture the way a photographer does — open it up for real subject isolation with natural bokeh, stop it down when you need more of the scene sharp. On the iPhone the effect is milder. Same story for video: stepless aperture lets the Xiaomi change exposure smoothly without jumps. Apple’s four positions are better than a fixed lens, but still stepped.
And this isn’t some new invention. Xiaomi shipped a proper continuous variable aperture on a 1-inch sensor back in early 2024. Apple finally added a limited version two years later and somehow people act like they invented something innovative

The first brand to do something often has problems with the thing I would never want my phone to be the first ever to do something in the industry I would want that feature when we have the tech to do it right

Hablan mal de Samsung y resulta que Samsung fabrica las piezas del iPhone. Sin Samsung no hay iPhone. Apple solo lo diseña.
