Since when is it bad to acknowledge or show appreciation for an act of kindness? Just because it should be done more often or is considered "the bare minimum" doesn't mean it should go unnoticed. That's how "the bare minimum" becomes the norm, when those performing that act feel like it meant something to the other person.

acknowledging and thanking someone for doing a good thing encourages a repeat in behavior. however, acknowledgement and thanks for doing a good thing should not be expected. that does not mean we can not be thankful or grateful for someone being a good human.

The fact is people treating each other with kindness in general should be the bare minimum. But we clearly live in a society where that isn’t the case and until it is we shouldn’t be shaming someone who publicly acknowledges it. The person making that comment missed the basic point of treating others with kindness.

yep. good ideas have to propagate somehow. word of mouth. media representation. personal examples. etc. although I maybe can understand how treating something as actually extraordinary can permit a sort of bystander effect where people permit themselves to do less or nothing hoping someone else can and will do the extraordinary thing

Not the way I rushed to the other video as soon as you said “man waiting outside” expecting something entirely different because I had a more of a predatory experience and was saved by a train station employee.
