@weather_breakingnews: September 13–14, 2026 Japan Several eruptions were recorded at the Minamidake crater of the Sakurajima volcano. During one of these events on September 13, a column of volcanic ash rose approximately 2,400 meters above the crater. A subsequent eruption occurred in the evening, sending an ash plume to a height of about 2,000 meters. The volcanic ash drifted primarily northwest, toward areas of Kagoshima Prefecture. Eruptions continued on September 14; the ash column reached a height of about 2,100 meters in the morning, and approximately 2,500 meters during another eruption later in the day. Due to the ongoing activity, Japanese authorities are maintaining the volcanic alert at Level 3 ("access restrictions"). There is a risk of large, hot rock fragments being ejected and of pyroclastic flows occurring in the vicinity of the craters.
