Foundayo Orforglipron UK Explained: Weight-Loss Eligibility, BMI Criteria, NHS Availability, Side Effects, Dosing and How It Differs From Mounjaro 💊 FOUNDAYO has now been approved in the UK — but does that mean you can get the new weight-loss pill on the NHS? Not yet. On 10 August 2026, the MHRA authorised orforglipron, brand name Foundayo, for both weight management and insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes. The UK became the first country in Europe to authorise the medicine. Foundayo is a once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist. For weight management, it is licensed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for adults with: • BMI 30 kg/m² or above, or • BMI 27 to under 30 plus at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea or cardiovascular disease. It is also authorised for adults with type 2 diabetes that is not adequately controlled, either alone or alongside other diabetes medicines. But here is the distinction I want every patient to understand: MHRA approval ≠ automatic NHS availability. For weight management, NICE is still assessing orforglipron. Its current technology appraisal is in progress, with final guidance expected on 18 November 2026. Foundayo has, however, begun becoming available in the UK through private prescription, following its August launch into UK pharmacies. 💉 Is Foundayo basically a Mounjaro tablet? No. They are different medicines. Foundayo = orforglipron, a once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist. Mounjaro = tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection acting on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. So you should NOT: ❌ compare their milligram doses ❌ combine them yourself ❌ switch from one to the other yourself Their doses, pharmacology and dosing schedules are different. 💊 How is Foundayo taken? The approved UK starting dose is 0.8 mg once daily. After at least 30 days it increases to 2.5 mg, with further increases possible after at least 30 days at each dose level, depending on response and tolerability. The maximum approved daily dose is 17.2 mg. That is an important clarification: It is each dose LEVEL that is generally maintained for at least 30 days — not that one tablet lasts a month. Unlike some other oral GLP-1 medicines, Foundayo can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, and without specific food or water restrictions. The tablet should be swallowed whole. 🤢 What are the common Foundayo side effects? The most frequently reported effects are gastrointestinal. Very common effects include: • nausea • constipation • diarrhoea • vomiting • indigestion • abdominal pain These symptoms were generally most noticeable during dose escalation and tended to decrease over time in clinical trials. ⚠️ Persistent vomiting matters because dehydration can occur and, in some cases, affect kidney function. Acute pancreatitis is listed as an uncommon adverse effect, so severe, persistent abdominal pain — particularly if accompanied by vomiting — needs prompt medical assessment. And because this is a newly authorised medicine, it remains under additional monitoring in the UK so new safety information can be identified quickly. 🔒 Where should you get it? Foundayo is a prescription-only medicine. Use a properly regulated prescriber and a registered UK pharmacy. Do not buy GLP-1 medicines from social-media sellers, unverified websites or anyone offering prescription treatment without an appropriate clinical assessment. People often search: Is Foundayo available in the UK? Can I get Foundayo on the NHS? Who qualifies for Foundayo? What BMI do you need for Foundayo? Is Foundayo the Mounjaro tablet? What is orforglipron? How does Foundayo compare with Mounjaro? What are Foundayo side effects? When should Foundayo doses be increased? Can Foundayo be taken with food? Can people with type 2 diabetes take Foundayo? How much does Foundayo cost privately? #Foundayo #orforglipron #weightlossmedication #glp1 #WeightManagement
