How to clean & store your gear after a trip 👇🏼 Ok I am on team I haaaate unpacking, but it’s got to be done & this gear wall has made it much easier. Learning to clean and store your gear will make it last longer and allows you to do a once-over before you take it out again (make sure that sleeping pad didn’t get a hole, etc). Here’s a quick rundown of our post-trip routine: SLEEP SYSTEMS: Lay them out!! Let everything (sleeping bags, pads, pillows, tents) dry for at least 24 hours to prevent mold growth. Condensation can get them quite wet. Sleeping bags go into boxes and not back into their compression sacks. Ideally we would have a place to hang these, but we don’t!! So boxes work. The goal is to not compress the down, as this will prevent it from working as well. LAUNDRY: Separate into: • regular clothes • down gear (we don’t wash this every time but if it’s smelly or dirty, we do!): we wash this with @nikwax down wash and down proof • waterproof gear (rain and snow jackets): we wash and rewaterproof these with @nikwax tech wash and tx.direct DISHES: full wash and dry!! Backcountry washes are never very good 😅. These get stored in boxes in our garage WATER FILTERS: we always always always flush our water filter every. Single. Trip. The @sawyerproducts squeeze comes with a syringe to backflush, and I just do it until the water looks clear (you wouldn’t believe the dirt that comes out of these!!). This greatly lengthens the life of them, and helps keep the flow rate fast! WATER BLADDERS/BAGS: I wash these with @camelbak cleansing tabs usually. Just toss one in, fill it with water, shake and let it sit, then rinse. Put it over a paper towel holder to let it completely dry. I think that is it…. Having this wall to store everything in makes this not quite as awful as it usually is!! Lmk if you have any questions! #backpacking #backpackinggear #hikinggear #campinglife #hikersoftiktok
