If there's one thing worth keeping in mind to build a happy, healthy relationship, it's this: you are not perfect, and neither is anyone you will ever be with. Humans are fundamentally flawed. There is no version of you, or them, that gets to skip that. Most relationships don't collapse because one person had a fault. They collapse because neither person left room for the fault to exist. Somewhere along the way, we started expecting relationships to look like a picture instead of feeling like a partnership between two imperfect people. We started chasing a fairytale that was never going to happen, and then treating every normal human flaw as evidence that something is broken. Something is broken. It's the expectation, not the person. Accepting that we're all flawed isn't pessimism. It's the only foundation solid enough to build something real on. When you stop demanding perfection, you make room for actual respect — respect for the fact that the person in front of you is human, exactly like you are, and always will be. The fairytale was never coming. What was always available was something better: two flawed people, choosing each other anyway, with their eyes open.
