Pilots can only control up or down, they have no lights, and they don't know where they'll land when they go up. They also have to have someone 'chase' them in a car while flying to meet them where they land. It's unsafe to fly without daylight but they do launch in the morning as long as the weather agrees.

sometimes they do a release and sometimes not!! I got to see a night fly last year and it was really pretty
