Look into Miami Indians of Indiana! We have a website and multiple social media pages, just not TikTok! We have yearly gatherings and powwows not too far from Fort Wayne that can teach you a lot! I am a member of the tribe and a former Miami maiden! We love teaching people about our tribe!

It’s always bugged me how little of the Indian history is evident around this city. Yes, they’re buried everywhere in the country, but the three rivers were extremely important for the tribes that lived here and it was seen as a very special place. You should check out a book called The Frontiersmen by Allan W. Eckert

Kikionga I believe was the name of the Miami settlement not a separate tribe. I’m part Miami.

Been saying this but they don’t want to hear me. The Shawnee were here too. Our middle school at FWCS are named after the slaughtered tribes. Anthony “Mad” Wayne who the city is named after did it to them.

Indiana literally means “land of the Indians”. Hence why most of our middle schools are named after tribes or associates with Indians. Shawnee, Miami, Blackhawk, Kekionga etc.

I’m convinced that Lafayette city limits doesn’t get hit by tornadoes due to the location being chosen by native people for that exact reason. The way it’s structured with surrounding lands, tornados get diverted around what is now city limits (and most surrounding areas to the east). The natives were very intelligent and in tune with nature.

I live in South Bend, so I researched the history of the woods surrounding my home. im in the last sulfur bog ecosystem that the potowatomi used to outsmart the British to cross into the safer British territory. its so cool how they outsmarted them and many survived because of their own land. no one lives on the majority of the woodland attached to that specific area, too. all the trails at this bog were set by them and I'm glad they still have a piece of home. I grew up with some of the Pokagon band's Rapp and Morseau families

around the Auburn area I use to put in yards, all kinds of artifacts, couldn't tell you how many arrowheads, axe/tomahawks and others, use to give some away.

I grew up across the street from st Joe (a claim I'm sure many can make!) and we have found so many arrowheads over the years it's unreal. If you're anywhere near one of our rivers, you're on sacred land.

I gotta do that dna testing because my dads mom(grandma) was enough Indian to receive checks from the government and my dad is enough Indian to have Caramel tan every year. I’ve always thought maybe my family was Cherokee Indian but maybe I need to learn more
