Nurse here. POTS is due to postural changes. Ie standing up after laying down your HR can spike. Just bc you have POTS, does not mean that you consistently have a RHR over 100.

It’s wasn’t above 100 for the entire time. It was 97/98 then went up so it wasn’t consistently above 100….

IST a form of dysautonomia (not POTS) and has a resting heart rate of 95+ om average. It wears you down so much because your body is in workout mode all day, never rests.

Obesity does cause a higher resting heart rate, and can cause it to rise more when shifting positions

I've has a RHR close to 100 for 16 years and no doctor has cared - I finally went to A&E a month ago and the nurse was like girl please make a doctors appointment you have PoTS 😂 and I've been all sorts of weights during that time, originally I was a healthy weight then I've been extremely overweight, lost 100lbs and my heart rate hasnt changed!

I'm fat and not very active, and my resting heart rate is usually somewhere between 60 and 80. Though I've had panic attacks during which it has been much higher. I would absolutely believe I was actively dying if my resting heart rate was suddenly over 100 all he time, it feels so awful and scary. Definitely not a normal part of just being fat.

if your RHR is over 100 consistently you could have IST on top of the POTS! I'm diagnosed with both, as my RHR is usually over 100 (unmedicated) and it also goes up over 30bpm upon standing.

do people not know what POTS stands for?? Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome… Postural meaning the position of your body, orthostatic meaning standing/sitting upright and tachycardia meaning fast heart rate (over 100 beats per minute)

I'm disabled and can barely walk, my resting heart rate is 99-101 every single time I go to get treatment the nurse is super concerned and asks me if I'm taking meds for it and if I told my doctor, I'm fat and don't even stand a lot and they know that, it's not normal 💀

My doctor blamed my weight for years for my high HR and symptoms. When I did start to lose significant weight, he then blamed my weight loss for my symptoms 🫠. I promptly found a new doctor who referred me to a cardiologist. Went through a bunch of testing and was diagnosed with POTS. I have lost 290 pounds from my highest weight and I walk 3 miles every morning. I average 10k steps a day. I still deal with POTS symptoms daily but they are more manageable since being on ivabradine. There are some doctors who genuinely will blame weight, when it is not actually about weight!

Family member who is 62, male, construction worker and weighs 135 has resting HR of 100. Dr. said it's his normal. Doesn't mean anything is wrong.
