Margin Call (2011) — “It’s just money.” One of the most chilling scenes in the movie. John Tuld starts listing years: 1637, 1797, 1819, 1837, 1857, 1884, 1901, 1907, 1929, 1937, 1974, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2000. Each one marks another financial panic, speculative bubble, market crash, or economic crisis. Different centuries, different markets, different people — but somehow, the same story keeps repeating. His point isn’t that the 2008 crisis is harmless. It’s that financial history is a cycle: people speculate, prices rise, leverage builds, confidence disappears, and eventually someone is left holding the losses. And while Sam is thinking about the people who will get hurt, Tuld is thinking about something else entirely: survival. To him, the question isn’t whether the crash is fair. It’s whether you’re the one selling before everyone else realizes what’s happening. “It’s just money.” A terrifyingly simple way of looking at something that was about to affect millions of lives. #matrix #money #margincall
