Purdey1814 :
I do wonder about Americans because it seems like it's so normal to not have washer/dry etc in their flats/apartments. I don't trust people enough to just leave my washing in a communal area 😂

To gather in a house of 4 - 5 minutes. To sort and put in washer - 5 minutes. Hang on the line - 10 minutes. To put away - 2-3 days.

I have no dryer and I have to iron everything. I have dedicated full days to just doing laundry

I got flak for saying that it takes less than 10 minutes to load, turn on, hang up and then put away. People make laundry out to be so difficult when it’s, in my opinion, as easy as housework gets.

The washing isn’t my problem, it’s the ironing. I’m old, I iron just about everything.

I live on the estuary so have to take my basket of washing down there with the other ladies while the kids are at school. It takes so much time! And don't get me started on how long it takes to scrub my doorstep.

I moved from USA to Germany in the ‘90’s & wrote a letter to my grandma about the hell of doing laundry in Germany, hanging clothes on folding clothesline on the balcony or in the house & taking 3 days in winter to dry, & having to iron sheets and blue jeans. My grandma laughed so hard. Took her right back to 1940’s USA.

It‘s just the sheer AMOUNT of washing they seem to be having every week, like you can wear an outfit twice 😭

They don’t have much of a sense of humour or understand sarcasm. Dry humour is not their thing, for sure.

Finding out the you all don’t have direct hot water to the washer is astounding. Your machines boil the water like a kettle apparently. I heard it takes four hours. I can do three maybe four loads in that time. Depending on how long it takes to dry.
