Evocation Adept and Spellfire Adept allows for Paladins to use up to 4 extra hit point dice per divine smite, so if they take 3 levels in Champ fighter… Greatsword can do a lot + they get two fighting styles

Were people really wanting to play pure martials in 5e before this, those who actually want to engage with the game rather than use it as an excuse to hang out? (not that there's a problem with that) 5e martials suck ass compared to casters, not just in terms of raw power but in terms of having interesting things to do. The only martials usually worth playing are the ones that get spellcasting.
