@south.african.mag: South Africa has the engineers, technicians, component manufacturers and industrial infrastructure needed to build its own vehicle brands. The country is Africa’s largest automotive manufacturing hub, with major plants operated by global companies including Toyota, Volkswagen and Ford, while locally produced vehicles are exported around the world. However, launching a new South African mass-market vehicle brand remains extremely difficult. The challenge is not a lack of talent or a law banning local brands, but the enormous capital, production, compliance and infrastructure requirements involved in entering the industry. Government automotive programmes such as the Automotive Production Development Programme provide important support, but their structure largely favours established manufacturers operating at significant scale. This can make it difficult for young entrepreneurs and smaller companies to move from an idea or prototype into commercial vehicle production. The contrast with China is significant. China has created an enormous environment for new-energy vehicle companies, with numerous new brands emerging as government industrial support, investment and a huge domestic market have helped the sector expand. China's NEV production reached about 16.63 million vehicles in 2025. South Africa introduced a 150% investment allowance for qualifying electric and hydrogen vehicle production from 2026, but policymakers could face growing pressure to create more accessible pathways for startups and young innovators.South Africa already has the skills and industrial foundation to build globally competitive vehicles. The bigger question is whether its laws and incentives will evolve enough to give the next generation of South African automotive entrepreneurs the opportunity to build the brands themselves. #SouthAfricanMagazinecom #viral #trending

*Treaty*... We have to force it. We can't be held hostage by agreements we were not part of. We need to manufacture our own vihicles now
