When will Muslim women everywhere be able to live with the same basic freedoms, opportunities and choices that every woman deserves? What is happening to Afghan women should make people think. Their rights have been severely restricted in Afghanistan, and now some who left seeking education and a future face being sent back. Women should not have to fight simply to study, work and determine their own future — whether in their own country or elsewhere. Women’s rights are human rights. Religion, culture or borders should never be used as an excuse to deny them.
