Who taught you what to actually DO with your money once you started making it? My introduction to managing money was earning an allowance ($2.00, seriously 😳) and learning how to balance a checkbook. You Millennials and Gen Zers are probably asking what on earth a checkbook even is. 😂 Here’s the crazy part though. I was a math major and became a teacher, and still, none of my lessons had anything to do with budgeting. Even with all of that education, no one was really teaching us how to actually manage our money OR how to teach someone else to manage theirs unless we intentionally took a personal finance elective. Over the years, I’ve taken Dave Ramsey courses, read A LOT of books, and been fortunate to have a pastor and tax professionals who taught me so much on the topic. BUT I keep coming back to this: How can we expect people to know how to manage money well if no one ever teaches them? I’ve always believed that when you know better, you can do better. Making more money isn’t necessarily the answer. If you don’t know where your money is going now, making more of it won’t suddenly teach you how to manage it. More money doesn’t automatically make us better with manage money. As believers, I think there’s an even bigger conversation to be had. God calls us to be good stewards of what He has entrusted to us, but how many of us have actually been taught what that looks like when it comes to our finances? That is exactly why I am so passionate about teaching on this topic. At the end of September, I’m teaching a class about managing money, stewardship, generosity, and what God’s Word has to say about ALL of it. Drop “MONEY” in the comments if you’re interested, and I’ll send you the details!
