@lisahaightstudio: So many younger people message me and say things like, “You’re helping me to not be afraid of aging.” To them I say: There’s nothing to fear about getting older. To age is to live. Bodies shift and change. It’s MORE than okay to have grey hair, wrinkles, and look like you are the age you are. I look younger than some people my age, and I look older than other people my age. Our society, rooted in racism and patriarchy, have forced us all to think that the only “good bodies” look one specific way. There are 8 billion people on the planet and that tells me that there are 8 billion ways to be human—well, with the exception of the billionaires, because there’s absolutely zero beauty in hoarding wealth and making other people suffer. Regardless, staying young isn’t about making sure you never have a wrinkle, it’s about remaining curious of the world around you and learning new things. And to those of us on this side of things: It’s also okay for our aches and pains to let us know when to slow down and where in our bodies might need some stretching and strength. It’s okay if our bodies aren’t cooperating. It’s okay. You’re here, and I’m here, and at the very least, that’s worth laughing about in this wide ridiculous-amazing world.
