@russellruffino: One of the hardest moments in growing a company is watching a great person leave. You trained them. You trusted them with clients. You built part of the plan around them staying. Then a message arrives that starts with "this wasn't an easy decision," and your stomach drops. Most founders take that personally, at least for a day or two. Some take it personally for years. It can make you hesitant to invest in people at all, because it feels pointless if they're going to walk. There's another way to see it, and both can be true at once. That person arrived without skills they now have. Maybe it was their first job that paid properly. Maybe it was the first time anyone handed them real responsibility. They learned how to talk to a client who was upset. How to own a target. How to lead a team through a bad month, because they watched you do it. Some of them learned how to hold a standard when no one was checking, because that's what they saw you do on the days nothing was on fire. They take all of that with them. Into their next role. Into the company they start. Into the way they treat the people who eventually work for them. So the leaving stings. The leaving is also proof that what you built works on people, and that's the hardest kind of building there is. Keep investing in them. Some will stay and some will go, and the ones who go carry your standards into places you'll never see. The next time a former team member pops up with good news, answer it. Tell them you're proud. They'll remember that longer than you'd guess. #businessowner #coachingbusiness #founders #salesteam #businessgrowth #womenentrepreneurs
