@kareemalhanafi: Ad-Dawlah al-ʿAliyyah al-ʿUthmāniyyah wa-l-Khilāfah al-Islāmiyyah... الدولة العلية العثمانية The Ottoman Empire (699–1922 AH / 1299–1922 CE) stood as the last great Sunni Caliphate, uniting much of the Muslim world under Hanafi jurisprudence for over six centuries. Rising from a small beylik in Anatolia under Osman I, it expanded to encompass the Balkans, the Levant, Egypt, the Hejaz, North Africa, and beyond — becoming, after Selim I's conquest in 1517, Khādim al-Ḥaramayn ash-Sharīfayn, Servant of the Two Noble Sanctuaries, and bearer of the Caliphate itself. It was a state that patronized the ʿulamāʾ, built some of the greatest works of Islamic architecture and endowment (waqf) the world has seen, defended the frontiers of Islam for generations, and gave shelter to scholars, sufis, and the persecuted alike — including, notably, the Bosniaks, whose Islam and identity were shaped under its rule for over four hundred years. Its fall in 1924, with the formal abolition of the Caliphate, remains one of the great wounds of the Ummah's modern history. اللهم أعد للمسلمين عزهم وخلافتهم، واجعل هذا آخر العهد بذهاب الخلافة، وأعدها لأهلها، آمين O Allah, restore to the Muslims their might and their Caliphate, and let this be the final chapter of its absence — return it to its people.
