This is why I always beg God to bless me with a partner who truly likes me, not just because of what I have. Someone who can watch me fumble, see things go wrong, and still stick around because of our personal relationship and her belief in me. I remember coming out of a relationship where I felt I had done so much for the person. But after the breakup, she kept pointing to the things I didn’t do and everything else she could have gotten from me. She would say things like, “If I had known you had that much money, I would have asked for more.” This was someone I felt I had done so much for. According to her, I introduced her to first-class experiences for the first time, designer bags and so many other things. I catered for her 100%. From my perspective, I had done a lot. But even after learning how much I had lost, her focus was still on what else she could have gotten before everything went wrong, rather than what it would take for me to rebuild. I had remained faithful and committed. I treated her with respect, empathy, love and kindness. Yet what stood out to her was what she wished she had asked for while we were together. That experience is why I keep insisting: find someone who genuinely likes you, not just what is in your hands. Someone who still sees your value and believes in you when things go wrong.
