NYC | Send this to your friends 🇯🇵 Japan’s popular Warabimochi Kamakura has finally opened a permanent NYC location in Chelsea 🎉 I tried them when they did a pop-up a while ago and really enjoyed it, so I’m excited that they finally have a permanent spot here 😆 If you’ve never had warabi mochi before, it’s quite different from the chewy mochi you might be used to 👀 It has a much softer, silky, almost jelly-like texture while still having that satisfying bounce. Their signature warabi mochi comes generously coated in Kinako-based powders, with Japanese-inspired drinks & desserts to pair with it too 🍵 What we tried: 🍵 Mochi Genmai Matcha Latte: At first sip, we felt like we were a fish (ponyo?) swimming in warabi mochi 🌅 Super creamy, with the brown sugar warabi mochi coming through. It’s the sweetest among all and think sweeter drink lovers would love it! (I enjoyed it! 🍓 Mochi Strawberry Hojicha Cloud: More complex & roasty! You get the deeper hojicha notes first, followed by the strawberry, and the flavors felt more distinct in this one. I’d go for this if you like deeper, roasted flavors 🍠 💚 Mochi Matcha: For the matcha lovers! You get the grassiness & earthiness of the matcha up top, then the sweet, bouncy brown sugar mochi at the bottom. A nice way to get the best of both worlds 👍and this is less sweet 🤎 Warabi Mochi: Silky, soft & bouncy at the same time, and honestly just really fun to eat 😂 We tried both the kinako & matcha flavors. Add some brown sugar syrup for extra moisture and sweetness, especially since all that powder can feel a little dry on its own. I’d definitely pair these with tea or another drink 🍵 also comes in black sesame, and cinnamon matcha powder 🍦 Matcha Soft Serve with Warabi Mochi: Creamy matcha soft serve with two pieces of warabi mochi, and the creamy + bouncy combo just works 🙂‍↕️This one leans sweeter and milkier, so I’d love an even stronger matcha flavor to bring out more of that earthiness! They just got their soft serve machine and are still making adjustments though, so it may not be available right at opening.
