Man Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison After Challenge to Prove Two Girls Were Not Lesbians Goes Wrong A 20-year-old Harare man, Manhanzva, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined US$150 after being convicted in a case involving two girls whom he allegedly s3xually ass4ulted while attempting to prove they had sexual feelings for men. The man, who initially denied the r@pe allegations, claimed the incident stemmed from a challenge to prove that the two complainants, who identified as lesbians, were attracted to men. According to State papers, one of the girls later fell pregnant. The accused appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Sandra Mupindu, facing two counts of r@pe. Prosecutor Lovet Muringwa told the court that the incident occurred on December 20 last year, when the two complainants visited the accused's home. The State alleged that the accused took the first complainant into his bedroom and locked the door before r@ping her. He allegedly later took the second complainant into the bedroom and had s3xual intercourse with her. In January this year, one of the complainant's mothers noticed that her daughter was experiencing stomach pains. She took her to Damafalls Clinic in Ruwa, where she was reportedly confirmed to be pregnant. The complainant later disclosed the matter to her mother, who reported the case to the police on February 4 after allegedly failing to convince the accused to take responsibility for the pregnancy. The court subsequently sentenced Manhanzva to 18 months in prison and fined him US$150, with an additional two months in prison if he failed to pay the fine.
