@chris_mf_craig: Technican: “I QUIT” Over Warranty Labor Time - Imagine losing a tech with 11 years of experience over 1.5 hours of labor. That’s the reality for a Toyota dealership right now. The technician says he was asked to take down a viral video showing a warranty labor rate that took 1.5 hours off the job, which is essentially a pay cut for him. He says the dealership asked him to take it down, to which he said “no” and quit his job. No comments from the dealership at this time. We have an automotive technician shortage for many reasons. I must say, that flat rate warranty disputes rank high among them. 76% of techs say that their pay structure is a top industry issue. #automotive #automotivetechnician #automotivelife #automotiveindustry #automotiverepair @thatyotaguy1

dealerships run on the backs of the service dept . service dept is what keeps dealerships open as they don't make that much from car sales and they still have to pay the staff to support

I’ve always thought, if the business wants to help someone out I’m all for it, but don’t take food off the technicians table to do it.

if you expect a walk-in customer to pay 2.3 hours, you should expect everybody to pay 2.3 hours, whether it's an aftermarket insurance company or whether it's the dealership themself doing warranty work.

I have a Tacoma I refuse to bring it to the dealership because they screw the technicians. If I could find a former Toyota technician south of Boston I’d be a loyal repeat customer I’d trust him and would gladly pay him whatever is necessary.

the real issue is not warranty time it's flat rate in general that is why no one wants to be a mechanic anymore

ive ALWAYS thought if it's managements decision to give the customer a break that should come straight out of the dealerships/manufacture p/l not the techs. why should the tech take a hit when he literally did his job and completed the work. there should be legislation to protect technician pay for work that was ACTUALLY done. the tech should always get paid for any work that was completed.

Car companies shouldn't be setting labor time, much less that far below the book time.

as it should. Warranty has been screwing the technician for years and then the businesses get mad when you call it out or what it is. I work for Firestone for years and they fired me over a very similar situation. Even though their name was don’t mention in the post. This is part of why I got out out of the field.

if the warranty company only covers x amount its up to the advisor to get the customer to pay the rest. if not then the job doesn't get done.
