@askdrnandi: Pancreatic cancer is one of the hardest cancers to catch early — and that’s exactly why new research around earlier detection matters so much. A new experimental blood test called PANXEON detected about 87% of stage I and II pancreatic cancers in a study involving nearly 1,800 people across four countries. It also identified about 64% of high-grade dysplasia, a precancerous change, in people with high-risk pancreatic cysts. The test looks for several signals in the blood, including fragments of genetic material associated with cancer and CA 19-9, then uses AI to combine those results into a risk score. That matters because pancreatic cancer can remain silent for a long time. According to the report, about 90% of cases are diagnosed after the cancer has already spread, and the five-year survival rate is only about 14%. This is promising, but it is not yet a routine screening test. Larger clinical trials are still needed, and false positives remain an important limitation.
