I don't think its true because in some country thermostat are removed due to unreliability of cooling the engine. especially in kenya 🇰🇪 thermostat are removed for better performance and cooling.

pros; good fuel consumption cons; blown engine when thermostat fails For me in the tropical climate in Uganda, the first thing I do when I buy a vehicle is remove or disable the thermostat. my lowest temp in the morning is 17⁰C my highest is 38⁰C Am safe thermostat only makes sense in places that have low temps

My Mazda 323, Mazda Lantis, Honda City, Kia Pregio and BAIC M60 Turbo have no engine thermostat... Upon removal, i put extra Auxiliary fans with a separate switch. Doing this foe more than 20yrs WITHOUT OVERHEAT.
