The Curse We Cannot Blame on Others.
There is a simple word that can open the door to a profound reflection: “curse.” We often speak of a curse as though it were something another person could place upon us, an accusation, a label, or a condemnation. But we rarely stop to ask ourselves, What have we done that has caused others to see us this way? This does not mean that every accusation is true. Truth requires evidence, context, and a fair chance to examine what really happened. But we also cannot use that truth an excuse to avoid every responsibility. If our actions have caused consequences, we cannot call it a curse as though we had no part in it. No one can place a curse upon us. Our own actions produce their outcomes. This is not a call for condemnation, but a call to examine ourselves. Before demanding that the world see us differently, we must have the courage to examine our conduct. Before asking a word that hurts us to disappear, let's ask if our actions gave reason for it. And before accusing others of judging us unfairly, let us be willing to look honestly at the facts. This applies to individuals, families, communities, institutions, and nations. Words don't impose a malediction; it is our actions that mark us. Real change begins not by altering our image, but by changing what produces that image. True awareness asks not only “How can others see us differently?” but “What must we examine in ourselves to give them a true reason?” We cannot control every opinion, but we can choose our acts, our responses, and whether we have the humility to correct what is wrong. Nothing outside of us determines our worth. What matters are the consequences of our decisions. May we learn to look inward before pointing outward. May we demand evidence before condemning, due process before judging, and truth before defending an image. Because in the end, what defines us is not merely how others see us, but what we have done and what we choose to do tomorrow.
