I worked with a group of people from all over the world for a while. One of them once said: “When Germans say ‘goodbye,’ they sing opera.” One person starts in a normal voice: “Tschüss !” The next person goes a few notes higher: “Thschühüss.” 🎵And everyone after that goes a few notes higher still: “Tschühüss, tschühüss, tschühüss.” 🎵🎶🎵😂

the thing is most people that don't live in a german speaking region or a neighboring region to germany only have WW2 speeches or comedic parodies of said speeches as reference. And thats not how German sounded at any point in time. Its a sound that was kinda unique to nazi propaganda speeches combined with the audio technology of that time.

well German is a straight honest factual difficult language with less Emotions tht their mentality they Show sympathy or Not but any language have Advantage or the Opposite speak 6 languages AS an German most of Them are less difficult even Italian IS in some regions Like they sing

When people abroad asked me to say sth in German, they are always like 'oh you're pronouncing it so softly' and I'm always tell them that's just how people actually speak 😅 I get that the grammar is a nightmare to learn if your native language is not similar in that way, but the sound is not that bad. It's not French or Italian, but it's not awful.

It has a lot to do with conditioning. If you constantly hear that it sounds harsh and all villains have a German accent, your brain connects that.

yes they always MAKE it sound harsh but it’s one if the most beautiful and versatile languages, we have SO MANY WORDS too you can express yourself so beautifully in it

yeah we're not as shouty as the world seems to think. Most of us are quite softly spoken IMO. And subtly friendly, too. Just not loud about it.

Well, in movies etc. they usually make it purposefully harsh. Because yk, the Germans in movies tend to be the bad guys 🙃
