I was sitting in the nursery at 2am doing that thing where you’re technically awake because of the baby, but now the baby is fine and somehow YOU’RE the one who can’t settle down. She’d eaten. She was changed. She was finally getting sleepy again. And I was sitting there staring at the monitor with my brain running through approximately 700 completely unnecessary thoughts 😂 Did she eat enough? When did she last poop? How long was that feed? Wait… which side did I nurse on? How long did she sleep before this? Should I put her down now or wait five more minutes? Motherhood is so weird because at 2pm these are just normal questions. At 2am they feel like a full-blown investigation. I opened my phone to log her feeding and checked this map I’ve been using. There were moms awake EVERYWHERE. Every little light was another mom who was up right then. Feeding. Pumping. Rocking. Trying to get a baby back to sleep. Or probably doing exactly what I was doing… sitting in a dark room wondering why her brain suddenly decided this was the perfect time to rethink her entire life 😅 And then my phone showed: 3 moms sent you hugs. One was from California. One was from England. And one was from Portugal. PORTUGAL 😭 I’m sitting there in my dark nursery at 2:08 in the morning and some mom thousands of miles away, who I will literally never meet, saw my little light on a map and basically said: “Hey. I see you.” I know that sounds like such a tiny thing. It was literally just a hug through an app. But at 2:08am it did not feel tiny. Because nighttime motherhood can feel SO isolated. The whole house is quiet. Your partner might be asleep. Your friends aren’t texting. Instagram makes it look like everyone else’s baby has been sleeping peacefully for nine hours 😂 And you’re sitting there covered in spit-up trying to remember whether the last feed started at 12:47 or ended at 12:47. Then suddenly you see hundreds of little lights on a map. And you realize… Oh. Everybody is up. 😂 Maybe not everybody. But enough of us. Enough moms rocking babies in dark rooms. Enough moms pumping while scrolling their phones. Enough moms Googling things they absolutely should not be Googling at 2am. Enough moms whispering “please stay asleep” while attempting the most delicate crib transfer ever performed. I think that’s why those three little hugs got me. They didn’t fix anything. Nobody gave me advice. Nobody told me how to get my baby sleeping longer. It was just three moms somewhere else in the world saying: I’m here too. 💛 And sometimes that is literally all I need in the middle of the night. Also, to the mom in Portugal who sent me a hug at 2:08am… I have absolutely no idea who you are. But I hope your baby went back to sleep. And I hope you did too. 🥺💛 #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
