I totally get the feeling of it seeming like it isn’t working when your picky eater stillllll won’t touch the food at the table 😅 Getting kids involved with food really CAN help. -shopping and picking out fruits/veggies to buy -washing produce -stirring, chopping, just touching the food -taste testing ingredients while you cook And honestly just being around food outside the pressure of the table can help SO much. PLAY, PLAY, PLAY y’all. Here are some ideas: -painting with food -using kid scissors or cutter shapes to cut foods -making funny faces or shapes with food -pretend cooking -scooping, pouring, smashing, etc All of that builds familiarity over time and takes some pressure off new foods. BUT if your kid helped make the muffins and still won’t eat them… that’s normal 😂 Helping in the kitchen is helpful because it creates exposure… not because it instantly turns kids into adventurous eaters overnight 🙃 Most “picky eaters” need LOTS of low pressure exposure before a food feels safe and familiar enough to try. A few picky eating tips that tend to help most: -keep a love-it food on the plate -let them interact with food without pressure to eat it (this includes getting messy 😅) -serve foods again and again even after they say no -involve them when you can without forcing it -try to stay neutral around eating -small is alwaysss better (like 1 broccoli floret srsly 🥦) And honestly sometimes progress looks really small at first too🫠 Like touching the pepper. Licking the sauce. Putting the broccoli in the cart voluntarily for the first time 😂 That stuff matters too.
