@historicengland: We discovered amazing remnants of medieval feasting beneath the floor of the Stokesay Castle Great Hall. 🔎 Our team is now analysing these finds at our Fort Cumberland laboratory, giving us a clearer picture of the people who worked and lived in one of England's finest fortified manor houses. Stokesay Castle in Shropshire was once home to Lawrence of Ludlow, a wealthy wool merchant who advised King Edward I. His enormous success in the medieval wool trade paid for Stokesay Castle and gave him significant influence in national politics. @englishheritage now looks after the site, where you can explore the Great Hall, along with other treasures like the medieval staircase, tiled floor, and a richly carved 17th-century chamber.
