I experienced this when I used to dress alternative whole time I’ve been going JA since I was a newborn, was educated and in tune with my culture on a different level, embraced my natural hair and Afrocentric hairstyles rather than wear wigs and yet was called ‘whitewashed’ and a ‘coconut’

Going to a secondary school that was very multicultural opened my eyes hugely to this kind of discourse. Following social / cultural norms within skin colours was way more prevalent than I realised. You had one extreme of people being labelled as freshies to others being called Choc ices.
