She will never tell him the truth of why she writes it down because they might argue and arguing leads him to run over to his ex girlfriend’s house. He can’t be trusted with her emotions of hurt and anger. She may have forgiven him but she will never trust him again. Honestly, she would have probably been better off if she’d left because him play dumb and annoyed at her actions tells me he didn’t learn anything and hasn’t changed.

It would have been over the day I found out he'd lied about the car. Broken trust. And never to be repaired. She thought about that lie Every Single Time She Walked Out to write down the milage. Eventually, it's going to corrode what's left of her reserves and she will leave.

I'm gonna give you the keys to the kingdom, here: if it was only 2 years prior? It isn't a remnant of that argument, it isn't a ritual now disconnected from the inciting incident. I could believe it for an inciting incident 10-20+ years prior, but if I read this interpretation and then an author revealed it started only 2 years ago? I'd probably laugh and I'd definitely know the piece was written by a dude.
