I think people are forgetting that they were literally raised isolated from society, so they had no way of knowing the social rules we grow up learning. They didn’t know they weren’t supposed to hit each other, they didn’t understand relationships the way we do, and they didn’t even know they were related or what being cousins would mean. They were just growing up together, naturally developing feelings and eventually having a baby because they had no outside world teaching them what any of those things meant. I’m not saying everything they did was right by today’s standards, but judging them as if they had the same knowledge and social conditioning as everyone watching the movie doesn’t really make sense.
