@courtneytaylar: I don’t think I’ve ever spoke about Ava being an organ donor. It’s such a complicated weave of emotions to process and explain. I’ll never forget that phone call we received when we got home from the hospital without our Ava Jade. How do you choose anything when your whole world is already gone? Saying yes to donating her organs was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and yet somehow, the easiest. Because even in the middle of unbearable loss, I knew who she was. Ava loved big. She gave freely and she would have never hesitated to save someone else if she could. And in the only way left, she still did. I remember it just like it was yesterday. I remember crying in the phone, numb. Tanner and I answering questions no parents should ever have to answer. My heart was screaming no, no more! No more taking from her!! But somehow beneath the unbearable pain, there was this quiet, steady knowing, that this wasn’t taking from her. This was her giving one last time. So we said yes. I vividly remember praying through tears and pain, that while this was the worst day of our entire lives, I genuinely prayed that it was the best day of someone else’s. Families would soon be receiving their miracles even though we weren’t granted ours. That God is still good even if he told us no, but told somebody else yes. Yes, even though it broke me. Yes, even though it meant letting go in a way that felt permanent and unbearable. Yes, because she deserved to be known for the light she carried. And now, pieces of her are still out there somewhere. Pieces of her that my body created. Pieces of her that we loved and poured every ounce of love in for 8 amazing years. She became a hero the moment I had to say goodbye. People tell us how strong that was, how selfless. But the truth is, I didn’t feel strong. I felt shattered. I still do. The only thing that made it possible was loving her and knowing that love didn’t have to stop where her life did. She changed lives. And even though mine will never be the same, there’s something quietly sacred in knowing that somewhere, because of her, someone else gets more time. More birthdays. More laughter. More life. Families get to love their family in the flesh when we no longer can. I will spend the rest of my life missing her and being in awe of her at the same time. So today is for you, Ava. The ultimate sacrifice you made. The gift of life you gave. We love you so much and will forever be proud of you. #trending #fypシ #grief #organdonor #life
