@pang__bang: This is the perfect place to visit in October for its fall colors and spooky past 🍂👻 A little history: Jim Thorpe was a world famous Native American athlete, often referred to as the greatest athlete of all time. After his passing, the struggling towns of Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk accepted his remains and renamed their town Jim Thorpe to honor him and to save the town from going broke. You can watch a the documentary about his life called ‘Jim Thorpe: Lit by Fire’ on Netflix now! 📍Jim Thorpe is about a 2 hour drive from NYC, 1.5 hours from Philly, and 4.5 hours from Pittsburgh making it an easy fall weekend getaway from the Northeast. Here’s how to spend a weekend exploring this charming historic town👇🏼 Day 1 – Friday ⛰️ Check into your stay in downtown Jim Thorpe and try your best to find a place that includes parking otherwise you will have to pay each day. The Harry Packer Mansion holds murder mysteries a few times per year for guests and I’d LOVE to do this someday. 🍸 Spend your first night sipping drinks on the porch of the haunted Harry Packer Mansion or The Inn. 🍗 Grab dinner downtown and stroll through the cobblestone streets lit by lanterns. The garlic buffalo wings at Notch Eight Craft House were SOOOO GOOD I went back for seconds. Day 2 – Saturday 🚌 Hop on the Jim Thorpe Trolley Tour to learn the town’s fascinating and spooky history. 🛍️ Wander Race Street and Broadway for vintage shops, boutiques, and cafés. 🚴♀️ Go biking or whitewater rafting through Lehigh Gorge State Park where the fall views are unreal. Day 3 – Sunday ☕️ Start your morning with coffee at Curiosities Coffee House or Muggles Mug. 🚂 Ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railroad for sweeping mountain views. 🏚️ Visit the Old Jail Museum to see the eerie handprint left by a prisoner who claimed innocence. ⛏️ End your trip with the No. 9 Mine Tour, one of Pennsylvania’s oldest coal mines and one of the coolest tours I’ve ever done. Hahahaha not underrated at all. It gets PACKED. Can barely even walk, parking is a joke if where you stay doesn’t have any. As a local, I stay AWAAAAY

Jim Thorpe IS lovely. I have NEVER heard it referred to as underrated, as its always packed with tourists passing through the area. Saying "theres a lot to do" is misleading, though. You can do it all in one afternoon, as its a VERY small town with all attractions off of one main street. But it is a nice way to spend an afternoon if you're in the area.

Underrated?? Don’t get me wrong. We got to drive through it and it was beautiful, but there were no parking in the town. We drove around, looking and looking at one single parking spot the train that you cannot buy tickets for ahead of time in the fall had a line longer than Disney World lines. This place is packed during the fall. I wish we had gotten to take the train.

Before this blew up on social media, it used to be amazing. Used to be my favorite small town in PA. Now it is just packed with so much tourist and you can barely find parking.
