I cannot believe there has been no accountability or actions implemented by the school board for losing your son. This is my biggest fear for my child who starts school next year, just a few towns away from you. Your story has encouraged me to ensure there is a concrete safety plan in place where ever he goes.

Sometimes a traditional school isn’t the best place for a student. There are better options out there.

I hate HWDSB with a passion. I had to sit on the floor at the board office for my son. I didn't move until I was spoken to. I was ready to be removed. we moved back to HDSB and my son has never been happier

I just moved to that area. I have a 20 month old son. If you ever want to take the kids to the park or on a walk and need a friend, I’m here!

shared this with my kids. To remind them if they see something to say something, to expect better of their school community to keep everyone safe. Not everyone can advocate for themselves, and many people would rather cover their asses then actually fix the problem.

Mistakes happen, no doubt and we are to learn from them hopefully. However some mistakes should not be made and after reading up a little to understand your story, this is one that should never be made. I can only imagine. Feel for you both. I don't have much good to say about the school system these days. From top to bottom. So I don't say much or rather anything anymore or else...:) You guys take care eh. Cheers to Health amd happiness

If you need support, someone to sit in class with him, or just someone to be a friend for him I’m more than willing to help …. I have no training or education for helping with special needs but I absolutely know how to be a decent human being…. I know it’s a bit of travel, but I know Huntington park (east mountain) has a good program and track record with special needs children

As an educational assistant that is from around that area I’m so so sorry :( that poor boy deserves to go to school just like everyone else. The school system is so broken and trust me the ones that care about these kiddos we’re fighting for something to give. We need more support for kids and communities ❤️

I’m so sorry, keep us updated! My son is high masking and gets no support, he’s burnt out now and full of anxiety, pulling him out to do online learning and ABA.

sending hugs !!! your son is so handsome. I’m so glad he was ok after walking alone, gosh I’d be so furious. I know it’s exhausting, I am in same boat juggling between what to do what schools for both my kids etc it’s just why is it so hard !??? So many schools and the system is a joke! Stay STRONG mama bear, all we can do is just keep advocating for them and you’re doing a damn good job. 🩷🙌🏼

For those who are saying the school system is broken, ask yourselves what has changed in the past 20 years. Funding? Accountability? Parental responsibility? Class sizes? Add phones….it’s a mess.

I went to Gatestone Elementary from k-8 they have an amazing program for kids with special needs they have an excellent staff with all sorts of EA’s that actually care abt your children. Then once high school comes they have Saltfleet’s graduated support program that has amazing staff that help guide kids with special needs to success like jobs, college/university I have many friends today that were in these programs who now have degrees and have become independent working young adults now💕I hope you find something that works for you & ur son so sad to see him having such a hard time🫂

unfortunately, the catholic board always gives more support for spec ed i find. and if they can't do 1 on 1, they do multiple ea staff trading off who build working relationships with your student. I would know, I do this for a living with them.
