My mom was so mad when she had to give my dads social security back for the month he died. I don’t blame her it’s cruel. Our government is awful. They seem to care more about billionaires than people

My father passed at 4:05pm on the 12th. His check hit at midnight on the 13th, 8 hours later, and SS took it back. Leaving my mother’s account in the negative. Guess they figured that 8 hours meant we didn’t need to pay a month’s worth of his bills. It’s depressing

But are there any legal ramifications? I mean, a hospice nurse, the coroner, the funeral home pick-up crew…? If someone notices they’ve been dead WAY LONGER than the family says, just for a cheque?

I bet this happens more than we think.... my husband disappeared on March 31st and they found him on April 2nd.... so his date of death was April 2nd and still. and still they pulled a check out of our bank account. the way they time social security payments is so weird

I'd be calling the coroner in that circumstance. We can't be confident that the cancer was the cause of death with no nursing visits for several days prior.

I feel so torn because I’m estranged for my mom and have no feelings for her anymore because she has hurt me so badly For over 60 years and yet I know at her age it could just be a matter of a year or two.

My dad died on the 17 of the month. SS took back his check for the month but then replaced it later the next month. Not sure why.
