@jessnuremberg: Replying to @I am Delise! I was asked if I would ever donate my remaining embryos to another family, and my immediate reaction was no. I don’t feel comfortable with the idea of having a biological child in the world that I’m not raising. But then the irony hit me. I was able to become a mother because someone else was willing to donate sperm. Someone I will probably never know gave me the ability to create the most important person in my life. So I found myself sitting with this contradiction. I am deeply grateful that someone was willing to give, but I don’t naturally feel that same desire when it comes to my own embryos. I want to want to say yes. But right now, I don’t. And I think it’s okay to acknowledge how complicated that feels. I’d genuinely love to hear how other people think about embryo donation, especially if you’ve faced this decision yourself. #EmbryoDonation #DonorConception #SingleMomByChoice #IVF
I have 7 embryos. All I need is one or two. I would love to give those other embryos a chance at life and give a gift to another family

If we have any left over, we’re definitely donating our embryos. We know several families who used donated embryos - I think it’s beautiful. Plus my husband and I are interracial and I feel like it’s harder for those couples ❤️

If my husband and I died, I would like to donate our embryos.

I'm actually hoping I have a leftover embryo or a few to donate to another SMBC or a couple. Ironically, I want a baby that shares my genetics, and I'm not personally interested in using a donor embryo myself 🤷🏻♀️

I love your thoughts on this so much. My first marriage I was able to carry and have my kids. I lost my ability to carry in my late 20s but still was able to do IVF and my now husband and I was able to create embryos and we were able to create 15 embryos after 3 retrievals. We have done 1 surrogacy journey and have our son plus our 2 daughters from my previous marriage right now and want 1 or 2 other children. I’m almost 41 now. Obviously there is no way we can have 14 more kids but it’s also possible that all the embryos could be used trying to have another 1 or 2 children for us bc of success rates even though they are tested. We did decide once we know we are done we are going to donate the rest because we know we want them to all have a chance of they can knowing we won’t use them, but won’t donate them until we know for sure that we are done having more. Congratulations on your family mama

We ended up getting pregnant via iui so didn't go through to IVF, but if we did end up doing IVF in the future and had extra embryos I wouldn't mind donating them. To me it just seems practical. Other people need them and I don't so why not.

Jess, my dream is to be a smbc as well. Can I ask how much you had in savings before you started? I won’t be ready for a long time lol but currently I have about 20k in a savings account that accruing interest & I don’t ever spend from it. If you feel comfortable I’d love to hear about how you prepared financially!!

To a stranger, no. I offered my sister but she also said no 😂. Said she doesn’t want her future children being mad at her and wanting to go with me lol

I actually felt the same way. Used sperm donation but just couldn’t donate my embryos.

The connection comes from raising a child, not genetically creating a human, so I think thats why people donate eggs sperm and embryos.

im starting ivf soon and if I have any remaining we will be donating, we only want one baby so I think it would be neat that if we did an open adoption of our embryos that maybe our future child can have a sibling or 2 and to help another family 💕 if they ever wanted to get to know me I would be there with arms wide open.

I feel like it’s different between woman and man. You’re amazing and I’ve been watching your story[Pink heart] I know we chatted awhile back and just wanted to let you know that you gave me that strength to become a single mom by choice! There’s nothing wrong with how you feel and your decision and I couldn’t do it either and yes I just bought my little swimmers by a truly genuine guy!

That's okay. That's why we're not all the same. We're kind in different areas.

made me think, could you legally do embryo donation since there is a contract with the sperm bank and family limits etc.

How many embryos did you get / have

I wouldn't say about my leftover embryos that they are my "biological children". Even if it's true in a medical aspect it's legally not true, at least in my country. They have my biopogical information and my DNA, but they would be the children of parents who decide to accept, adopt and raise them. it's the same if I decide to go for donor eggs, I wouldnt refer to the donor as the "biological mother".

It’s definitely nuanced between sperm donation vs egg/embryo…you could have gotten knocked up by any guy, you didn’t NEED his donation to have a child, whereas with egg/embryo donation it’s not a choice but a necessity

I’m a little surprised this is your opinion since you picked a donor who made so many children. I get that there’s a difference in egg/sperm (only half the DNA of a child and half sibling to your embryo) but you absolutely get a say in who gets your embryo whereas a sperm donor doesn’t get to be picky. Once I am done with mine, I would be happy if someone whom I feel like is compatible with the way I’d raise my child wanted them. For me-I’d prioritize other female physicians who are nonreligious with similar beliefs.
