@fayim.hercreative: The apology is almost crazier than the ad. Because what exactly are you apologizing for? There was no premise here that sold shoes. No product story. No clever connection to Converse. Just imagery provocative enough to create outrage during a political climate where Black people being found hanging from trees is an actual conversation we’re having. And I’m supposed to believe nobody sat in that room and understood what those visuals could evoke? Maybe outrage WAS part of the marketing. Maybe somebody calculated that whatever audience you gained would offset whoever you lost. I can’t prove what happened in that room. But what we will NOT do is let brands play in our faces, issue the corporate “we’re sorry you were upset” statement when it goes left, and then carry on like the disrespect wasn’t part of what got everybody talking in the first place.
