Somehow we’ve convinced ourselves that this incredibly complex network, one that evolved over millions of years with one primary job: keeping us alive, can be “reset,” “healed,” or “fixed” with a few hacks and the perfect morning routine. I don’t think that’s how it works. Your nervous system isn’t broken. It’s adapting. It’s constantly taking in information from your environment, your relationships, your stress, your sleep, your movement, your nutrition, your thoughts, and your experiences, and adjusting accordingly. The goal isn’t to never feel stressed again. It isn’t to become permanently “regulated.” The goal is to build a nervous system that’s resilient enough to adapt to life’s inevitable challenges and flexible enough to recover when the moment has passed. I think we’ve overcomplicated something that was never meant to be a trend.
