You’ll be able to laugh the way you laugh. Talk about the things you genuinely care about. Be quiet without feeling awkward. Have boundaries without being punished for them. Share your feelings without immediately regretting that you opened up. That doesn’t mean the right people will never challenge you. Sometimes the people who love you most will tell you something about yourself that you don’t want to hear. They’ll encourage you to grow. Hold you accountable. Push you toward becoming better. But there’s a difference between someone encouraging you to grow into a better version of yourself and someone requiring you to become a different person entirely. Healthy relationships don’t erase individuality. They create enough safety for it to exist. So pay attention to who you become around people. The right ones won’t make you feel like you constantly have to audition for your place in their life. They’ll give you room to grow, change, struggle, succeed, and still remain unmistakably you. The right people won’t love the version of you they can create. They’ll love you—and encourage the person you’re already becoming.
