One blood test can now detect Alzheimer's disease risk years in advance The FDA has approved the first blood test that measures p-tau217 (phosphorylated tau 217). When p-tau217 is elevated, it indicates the presence of amyloid and tau pathology - characteristic of alzheimer's progression - many years before actual symptoms. Basically, the silence before the storm In studies, p-tau217 has been nearly identical to PET scans and cerebrospinal fluid testing, which so far are the gold standard tests. This doesn't mean everyone should rush to get tested. But for people with memory concerns, a family history, or those considering early treatment, it could become a much simpler and less invasive way to identify Alzheimer's risk. The earlier Alzheimer's is detected, the greater the opportunity to intervene with lifestyle changes, risk-factor management, and therapies. Prevention still matters: - Regular exercise - Blood pressure control - Healthy sleep - Mediterranean-style diet - Managing diabetes and metabolic health - staying socially and mentally active Early detection doesn't change the past but it may change what you do next. You can get p-tau217 tested in many labs now across the world. Can be worthwhile if you're high risk For everyobe else, traditional biomarkers can be very useful still - blood sugar - lipids - inflammation - body fat - visceral fat - VO2 max - muscle strength Want to discover where your health is at?
