My coworkers husband is a lawyer and he is overwhelmed with these cases lol . You have to put Your stuff in a trust at least 6yrs before you go into assistant care - depending on the state. They look WAY back into your finances

Boomers are notorious for taking out reverse mortgages. I bet many will lose their homes this way. How are debts dealt with for Medicaid?

They’re putting it in their children’s names and restructuring it to go in trusts. I’ve known older couples who got divorced on paper to make sure their income was separate.

I work in Medicaid waivers. When the elderly complain about the system, I just remind them that people were more worried about “welfare queens” that they were willing to screw everyone including themselves. This generation really thought they would be ☠️before the bill came due. No ma’am. It’s due now.

Unless they have a living trust, the government will come knocking and collecting everything. People really do not understand what is about to happen add it that these Boomers are living till they are damn near 90 and the youngest are in their late 60’s.

That’s the issue though is that it’s all going to go to the government and not to family members for them to stimulate the economy. So all of the wealth will be back to the government and we do not want that.

A huge portion of the next generation’s inheritance will disappear into nursing home fees and elderly care costs. Instead of passing down their wealth, families may be forced to sell off the very assets they spent generations building. As example In Germany, you can gift your house to your children, but if you can no longer afford your nursing home costs, the authorities can potentially claw back that gift for up to 10 years after the transfer. Even giving your home away doesn’t necessarily protect your family’s inheritance. 😆

when I watched the movie "I Care A Lot" I immediately thought,oh wow this is where all their money will go. to the people willing to scam them out of it, to the government, to private accounts managed by strangers... if they aren't already falling victim, they are lucky.

I practically forced my mother to put her house in a trust three years ago to make sure the government can't seize it when it's her time to go into care. You can protect your portfolio, but it's all gotta be done YEARS in advance or it won't be protected.
