I’m so glad I found that! Whatever keeps me out of hell. I started going to an independent Apostolic church 32 years ago and my life greatly improved. I wasn’t raised in this, no one made me go. This was what I wanted for myself. 🥰

Church hurt is very real! I’m 3 rd generation Pentecostal. My grandfather, father and late husband were all preachers. I’ve seen first hand ( not from them) how hurtful pastors and members can be. I’m so very sorry you were hurt. I would suggest to any any person being hurt… leave

I didn’t have this experience in the UPCI, but absolutely in an independent Pentecostal church!!! And I’ve gave it a second chance recently, with those same people, and they are still so judgmental and trying to control the narrative in people’s lives.

I did the math once and figured I probably sat through around 2500 sermons during my 21 years in the church - modest estimate. Almost every sermon pointed out some way we could be failing God without providing any real instructions on how to fix it, or any reassurance. Can you imagine the cumulative toll on your mental health and nervous system?
