@majeeda51: The shock I had when I heard this community in Ghana still practices the barter trade system. This is the Akateng Market, located in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Every Wednesday, People come from near and far to trade and one unique thing about the Akateng Market is that you’re able to directly exchange goods for goods. The market is right by the Afram River, where fishing is a major activity. People bring fish and other things they have in abundance and exchange them for items they need, like plantain, corn dough and other farm produce. So, instead of everything being about money, this traditional way of trading is still happening here. And honestly, seeing it in person was different. You hear about barter trading, but watching people actually exchange what they have for what they need makes the experience even more interesting.
