DIY ghost pumpkins Turn inexpensive plastic pumpkins into the cutest DIY ghost pumpkins using air-dry clay. This Halloween DIY takes a little patience, but the finished ghosts look so unique and can be styled on a mantel, table, shelf, or Halloween centerpiece. Supplies: • 3.5-4 Ibs air-dry clay • Plastic pumpkins (I used 6-inch pumpkins) • Black acrylic paint • Large round plate (11" or 13") • Flour • Water • Rolling pin • Pizza cutter or clay blade Instructions: 1. Lightly dust your work surface with flour to prevent the clay from sticking. 2. Roll the air-dry clay into an even sheet. 3. Use an 11" or 13" plate to trace a large circle. I preferred the look of the 13" circle. 4. Cut out the circle and carefully drape the clay over your pumpkin. 5. Smooth and shape the clay with your hands, using a little water as needed. 6. With a damp fingertip, gently shape the eyes and mouth. 7. Allow your ghost pumpkin to dry naturally for 2-3 days. 8. Once completely dry, paint the eyes and mouth with black acrylic paint. Drying tips: Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from drafts. Loosely cover it with plastic while it dries. Air-dry clay can crack, so don't rush the drying process. If cracks appear, mix a small amount of clay with water to create a paste, fill the cracks, and allow it to dry again. Repeat if needed until smooth.
