@tavelarocque: Day 99 of the @higherupwellness speak your mind challenge. narcissus didn't die because he loved himself. he died reaching for an image that wasn't real, and you're doing the same thing. everyone thinks it's a story about vanity, a man so obsessed with himself he wasted away at his reflection. but that's not what killed him. he didn't even know it was himself. he saw a face in the water and fell for it, not realizing it was his own reflection. he reached for something that could never reach back, and he starved to death chasing it. and you've got a version of that pool in your pocket. we don't fall in love with ourselves, we fall in love with the curated image of ourselves, the highlight reel, the version that gets the likes. and we reach for it, and it can never love us back, because it was never real. here's the question narcissus never got to ask himself in time: are you in love with who you actually are, or with the image of you that lives on a screen? one of them can look back. the other will let you starve reaching for it. #mythology #narcissus #socialmedia #psychology
